In this test, the main valves where opened by a spring actuator with a pyrotechnic release mechanism. The pyrotechnic release mechanism was actuated remotely after visual confirmation of complete ignition of the solid propellant ignition grain.
Ignition of the solid propellant ignition grain was obviously marginal. However thanks to the manually commanded valve opening, we could wait for complete ignition of the ignition grain before opening the main valves. This ensured enough ignition oomph to prevent a damaging ignition pressure spike when the main valves where opened.
